Hillview Health Care Center is a 60-bed skilled nursing health care facility owned and operated by La Crosse County. Hillview primarily focuses on those in need of rehabilitation and short stay care needs. The Oaks is a 10 bed State Only nursing facility within Hillview serving those who have a diagnosis of dementia with underlying behavioral needs. Please see The Oaks tab for more information.
The residents and their families are our best ambassadors to the La Crosse community. With the help of these ambassadors, we have established a reputation on our campus for providing quality and compassionate care. Our staff take pride in building warm, trusting relationships with residents and families. We have the capacity to take care of those with higher needs, yet we don't lose sight of the importance and need to offer respect, emotional support and compassion.
The residents rate the food and social opportunities as outstanding. During the summer, many families and residents take advantage of our beautiful setting and enjoy our outside walking paths. Deer, ducks, geese, and many other animals are found on our campus.
As we welcome the holidays, we also look forward to a new year! In the new year, we are anticipating many changes within our home. Our planning process is underway with anticipated completion in 2025 of a remodel and renovation of our home. Today, we are licensed to care for 60 residents in the nursing home and 10 residents on The Oaks. The board approved a final plan that includes these changes: add 34 CBRF assisted living beds on the East side of our home. This area is currently vacant. All will be private rooms. Downsize to 24 skilled nursing home beds on the West side of our home. All will be private rooms. Continue to serve 10 private nursing home beds caring for those with dementia and behaviors on The Oaks. Add 4 private beds caring for those needing dementia crisis stabilization. All would be private rooms. The plan also includes adding an Intergenerational Day Programming Center as well as 10 beds of Supportive Housing. These areas will not be supported by the Hillview staff. We are very excited for this much needed update to our home. Smaller, more homelike neighborhoods and private rooms will allow care to be provided more efficiently and is likely to be favored amongst those who live here. I want to be sure to mention the planning includes how we can move forward with these changes with the least impact on our residents. There is a lot of considerations being taken for safety and separations of the various areas of service. After 27 years of working for Hillview, I am beyond excited to know these changes will allow Hillview to be sustainable well into our future. I cannot wait to see the end results! Lastly, I want to recognize the hard-working staff we have on our campus. Our staff are the backbone of all that we do. You are priceless, compassionate people with the biggest of hearts. Your commitment does not go unnoticed. Thank you on behalf of Hillview-La Crosse County. ~Kelly Kramer, NHA Hillview Campus Administrator
