A page within Small Business Development Center (SBDC)

Advisers at the Wisconsin SBDC at UW-La Crosse are ready to answer your business questions. Our advisers have real-world business management experience and are willing to help you with questions regarding topics such as business planning, business management, financial statement analysis, cash flow management, record-keeping, bank financing, exports and imports, developing personnel policies, marketing planning and product innovation. Contact us to schedule an advising appointment.

The SBDC provides free, confidential one-on-one advising for all stages of small business development including:

Pre-venture assistance

Our advisers work with those who are thinking about or are in the planning stages of starting new business. We can assist you in developing the marketing, financial and management assessments needed to write a successful business plan.

Startup businesses

Our advisers will also work with those who have started their own businesses. We can help you address a specific challenge or opportunity involving marketing, finance, management, personnel or other topics. In addition, we can also work with you to update or revise your business plan that builds on past success and include plans for new growth opportunities or challenges that your business may face.

Established businesses

If you have been in business for many years and are now faced with new challenges or opportunities, we can help. We'll assist your efforts in securing needed financing or developing marketing strategies for new products and services. We will also use our knowledge of local, regional and even international resources to find the assistance you need.

New products & inventions

The SBDC can help you maximize the commercial potential of your new idea, product or service. Whether it be conducting preliminary patent searches or market research or developing a plan to secure financing/capital for your idea or invention, contact the SBDC for assistance.

There is no charge for confidential advising services.

SBDC Office Consulting Activity

During this period, we will continue to schedule 1 on 1 meetings with our business counselors. Due to closings and other restrictions, we expect most meetings to be held by phone or a virtual communication method.

The best and quickest way to reach the SBDC is to send an email to sbdc@uwlax.edu and give your name, contact information, and a short message. You also may call 608.785.8782 and provide the same information. There may be some delay in responding to messages but we continue to assist area small businesses during this period.
