County Background:
Located in Western Wisconsin along the Mississippi River, La Crosse County is home to approximately 115,000 people.

La Crosse County is home to three institutions of higher education - the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, Viterbo University, and Western Technical College – as well as two nationally renowned health care facilities – Gundersen Health System and Mayo Clinic Health Systems Franciscan Health Care.

The City of La Crosse, which is the County Seat, offers unique shops, lively entertainment, museums, art galleries, sidewalk cafes and coffee shops, farmers markets and exceptional restaurants and home to a growing arts district that serves as an anchor for tremendous arts and cultural opportunities.

The La Crosse County offers quality, affordable housing opportunities whether you prefer an urban environment or a quiet country home. And no matter where you choose to live, there are outstanding school systems throughout the county. The area is home to rivers and scenic bluffs that are unmatched in the middle of the country – forming the ultimate authentic playground, providing breathtaking vistas, and adding to a great quality of life. Our authentic terrain and pristine waters form an unmatched natural playground for outdoor recreation activities like cycling, kayaking/canoeing, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, bird-watching, sailing, and fly fishing.
