The Household Hazardous Materials (HHM) Program opened its doors in November 2003. The HHM program established itself as one of the most unique programs in La Crosse County in that its' existence is exclusively for the health and safety of La Crosse area citizens. The permanent HHM facility collects hazardous household materials from La Crosse County residents without a fee and for a minimal fee for individuals who reside outside of La Crosse County and for businesses.
The operation of the HHM program has been so successful that the North American Hazardous Materials Management Association (NAHMMA) awarded La Crosse County its 2004 "Best New Program" award. Pictured above, the award is given once annually to a program that exemplifies innovation and dedication to reducing environmental and human health risk by provided high quality, low cost hazardous waste collection services.
