Disposal Site

La Crosse County operates approximately a 52-acre municipal solid waste landfill which includes disposal areas for the following: solid waste, construction and demolition, special waste, Biopile remediation, and asbestos.

Businesses may the use the disposal site with the purchase of a permit. Information on Permits. Acceptable Items for Recycling or Diversion listed below do not require the purchase of a permit. Detailed Information on Pricing and Facility.

Utilization or the facility requires adherence to County Ordinance Chapter 15 and applicable Policies.

Acceptable Waste Items

  • Household Garbage: Bagged waste, paper, food waste, etc.
  • Large, bulky Items: Furniture, vacuums, hot tubs etc.
  • Demolition/Construction Debris: Drywall, doors, windows, sinks, toilets, tubs, roofing, bricks, carpets, flooring, etc.

Unacceptable items disposed of in Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) or Demolition areas that will have an additional fee:

  • Tires (Large volumes should be disposed of in the tire bunker)
  • Appliances (Air conditioners, stoves, microwaves, etc.)
  • Electronics
  • Mattresses

 

Acceptable Items for Recycling or Diversion (No permit required)

  • Cardboard and Mixed Paper
  • Comingled Recyclable Plastics
  • Metal and Metal Appliances (Washers, Dryers, tin etc.)
  • Freon Items (air conditioners, dehumidifiers, refrigerators and freezers)
  • Microwaves
  • Mattresses and Box Springs
  • Tires
  • Yard Waste (Grass, leaves, household plants-paper biodegradable bags ONLY)
  • Brush and clean wood (Brush, limbs, stumps less than 18” in diameter, pallets, untreated, unpainted, unstained wood)
  • Stumps Over 18” in Diameter
  • Wood Chips
  • Shingles (Asphalt shingles only, must be free of other wastes. Tarpaper and nails ok)
  • Clean Fill (Gravel, sand, dirt, and landscaping rock ONLY)
  • Clean Concrete: (Must be chunk concrete from sidewalks, flooring, etc.)
  • Clean Blacktop: (Must be chunk blacktop)

 

Materials which cannot be disposed in Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) or Demolition areas:

  • Liquid wastes
  • Septic tank wastes
  • Toxic and hazardous wastes (by definition)
  • Materials already separated out for recycling
