Childhood
Injury Prevention Program

Each
year one out of every four children sustains an injury serious
enough to need medical attention. 90%
of these injuries (accidents) can be prevented.
The Childhood Injury
Prevention Program is a service of the La Crosse County Health Department.
Its mission is to assist parents and caregivers in addressing the major causes
of injury to children birth to five years old.
Unintentional
injury is the leading cause of death and disability
among children birth to age
five in the United States.
Major
causes of injury to children include motor vehicle injuries,
suffocation,
choking, fire, burns, drowning, and pedestrian injuries.
