COUNTY BOARD RETREAT

FRIDAY, APRIL 20, 2007

 

The La Crosse County Board of Supervisors Committee of the Whole – County Board Retreat was held on April 20, 2007 at Best Western/Midway Motel & River Jack’s Restaurant – Wisconsin Room.   The County Clerk, Marion I. Naegle, took attendance.  All supervisors were present except as noted.

He discussed the agenda for the day.

o         Monthly Reporting – Supervisors appreciate the Monthly Report because it keeps them informed prior to making decisions.

o         Policy

o         Administration

o         Goal:  Focus of attention

2008 Budget Status

Corporation Counsel Bill Shepherd

He updated the Supervisors on the recent death in the jail.

 

University Extension Department Head Mary Meehan-Strub

Brief instructions on the goal setting process to supervisors.

o         Composite listing of all priorities from last year

o         Top priorities from last year

o         Evaluation of last years County Board Retreat

·         Supervisors then worked on choosing the top five priorities for this coming year.  The results were:

o         Jail issues/Law Enforcement Center

o         Justice Sanctions/OWI

o         Domestic Violence

o         Comprehensive Plan

o         Economic Development issues

·         Other Priorities were:

o         Environment and conservation

o         Unity among Board members and keeping out partisan politics

o         Building on collaboration and intergovernmental cooperation locally, regionally and internally

o         Communication and cooperation – internal and with the public

o         Reducing taxes

o         Legislative Advocacy

o         Juvenile Justice

 

ADJOURN:

The Retreat adjourned at 12:15 p.m. with 11 excused – Belzer, Geary, Wood, Ehrsam, Maney, Medinger, Meyer, Hammes, T. Johnson, Kapanke, and Berns and 5 absent – Gamroth, Plesha, Keil, Schroeder and Bilskemper.
