located on the east side of the scenic Mississippi River. The estimated

of Wisconsin-La Crosse, Viterbo College, and Western Wisconsin Technical
College. Nearby Winona, Minnesota, also has several colleges. The

water skiing, golfing, downhill and cross country skiing, fishing and
hunting are some of the main activities in the area. The area boasts

linking the beauty of the countryside to the extensive network of City
and County parks and two wildlife refuges. In addition, the downtown La
Crosse Center Convention Hall and Arena attracts national and
international entertainers. The area is host to many fine restaurants
and entertainment facilities of state and national renown. The City of
La Crosse has been selected by national reviewers as the best small city
in which to live.
Among the outstanding
major festivals in La Crosse are Oktoberfest, Riverfest and the Jazz
Festival. There are many smaller festivals of ethnic, sports or special
interest. The area has several fine community theaters. La Crosse has
an attractive, modern airport facility.
