Our Recreation Therapy Assistant Internship schedule is as follows:
STUDENT TRAINING SCHEDULE WEEK 1 - General orientation to the facility and the Recreation Department will include: - Tour of the facility (map) / Building layout - Fire Emergency Disaster Plan - Resident Quality of Care (resident rights, etc.) - Recreation Department Layout (Orientation form) - Proper use of the telephone system Observe staff in daily programming Talk about semester project ideas Meet Department Heads and staff members Meeting with Supervisor 1. Student goals
WEEK 2 Continue observation of staff in programs Start to take initiative and “jump in” and help Attend care conferences to observe process Learn attendance charting Learn how census is done and continue to do daily Weekly meeting with Supervisor Continuation of orientation to facility / department (Infection Control & Personnel Policies)
WEEK 3 Work with staff in West Lounge Program, actually participating in the program Chart review: department sections Continue to help with overall programming Weekly meeting with Supervisor 1. Finalize semester project idea
WEEK 4 Work with staff in East Creative Stimulation program Knowledge of Documentation 1.Assessment process: MDS / RAPs 2.State and Federal Guidelines Continue to help with overall programming Plan to attend outing in the next few weeks Weekly meeting with Supervisor
WEEK 5 Work with staff in West Creative Stimulation program Follow a new resident on the Medicare hallway In next couple months attend either a TRACR/ LAAP/CRVC meeting (recreation/activity/volunteer meeting) Plan and set up bulletin board for remainder of internship Continue to help with overall programming- lead Current Events Weekly meeting with Supervisor
WEEK 6 Work with staff in East Lounge Activity program Plan to work an evening program (i.e. wheelchair dance) Talk with Volunteer Coordinator to learn about program Follow a new resident on any hallway, except Medicare Continue to help with overall programming Lead Current Events Weekly meeting with Supervisor 1. Mid-term evaluation (summer only)
WEEK 7 Work with staff in 700 spoke program (dementia) Discuss budget process and capital purchasing Discuss purchase order process Attend (CQI) Continuous Quality Improvement meeting Continue to help with overall programming Lead Current Events Fall semester students: work on Safe Trick or Treat Program Weekly meeting with Supervisor
WEEK 8 Plan one-time event/program to hold in next month Continue to help with overall programming Assigned residents for care conference in next 2 months Lead Current Events Review union contract Residents assigned to follow for remainder of internship i.e. care conferences, visits, MDSs Weekly meeting with Supervisor 1. Mid-term evaluation (Fall/Spring) 2. Review progress of major project 3. Plan an inservice for the staff
WEEK 9 Discuss Utilization Review (attend if possible) Spring semester students: work on Nursing Home Week Program Continue to help with overall programming Lead Current Events Program planning-plan 1week calendar Attend a volunteer fair (if possible) Sit in on an Auxiliary meeting Weekly meeting with Supervisor
WEEK 10 Continue to organize and supervise programs Attend facility inservices for remainder of internship Help plan/set up volunteer recognition banquet (summer only) Program planning-plan 1month calendar Weekly meeting with Supervisor 1. Review progress of upcoming in-service
WEEK 11 Plan a one-time event/program to hold in the next month Continue to organize and supervise programs Staffing/Care Conference assignments Weekly meeting with Supervisor
WEEK 12 Summer semester students wrap up Present inservice to staff Continue to organize and supervise programs Weekly meeting with Supervisor
WEEK 13 Continue to organize and supervise programs Continue to work on assigned residents for care conferences Weekly meeting with Supervisor
WEEK 14 Continue to organize and supervise programs Documentation –how is it going? Review job descriptions for Recreation positions Weekly meeting with Supervisor 1. Discussion about progress of major project 2. Review of student’s goals
WEEK 15 Continue to organize and supervise programs Finish major project Weekly meeting with supervisor
WEEK 16 Spring/Fall semester students wrap up 1. Start saying goodbye to residents 2. Finish up any assignments/documentation Final evaluation and project review
