Covering Kids and Families
(CKF) Report
Covering
Kids and Families operates through statewide projects in 45 states and in DC and
more than 140 local community projects. Wisconsin received funding in February
2003 and has 3 local projects, La Crosse County, Dane County and Milwaukee
County. CKF works to reduce the number of uninsured children and adults who are
eligible for public health care coverage programs but not enrolled.
Despite strong increases in Medicaid/BadgerCare enrollment and a low overall
uninsured rate, estimates show Wisconsin with 70,000 uninsured low-income
children and at least 30,000 potential adult enrollees. Here, the La Crosse
County Health Department-Community Liaison Program is providing outreach
services with a focus on children and Medical Assistance, working cooperatively
with local schools, homeless shelters, medical facilities (including the local
free clinic), local WIC clinics, and other community partners and resources.
