VETERANS HOME
The Wisconsin Veterans Homes (WVH) are located at King, near Waupaca and
at Union Grove. These are pleasant retirement communities where aging or disabled Wisconsin
veterans and their spouses can spend their declining years in comfort and dignity.
Founded by the Grand Army of the Republic in 1887, the Home is presently
operated by the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs and offers a wide
range of programs and services to its members. WVH is the largest and one of the most modern skilled nursing care facilities in Wisconsin. |
|
Veterans who are permanently incapacitated due to age or physical disability from following any substantially gainful
employment, meet criteria for military service and residency, and who apply income and asset resources to the cost of their care
as required under Medicaid eligibility standards, may be admitted as members to WVH.
While more information and a videotape on WVH is available at the County Veterans Service Office, a personal visit to King is
recommended for those with specific questions if travel there is possible.
WISCONSIN VETERANS STATE CEMETERIES
The state of Wisconsin has veterans
cemeteries at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, at
Union Grove in southeast Wisconsin and at Spooner in northwest Wisconsin.
To be eligible for interment in the state cemeteries, a veteran must have
been a state resident. Burial shall also be provided in the cemetery
for the spouse, surviving spouse or parent of a veteran if that person, at
the time of death, was a member of the Wisconsin Veterans Home.
Veterans may pre-register for interment by obtaining applications at this
office.
