LA CROSSE COUNTY VETERANS SERVICE COMMISSION
The Veterans Service Commission is a service body mandated by State Statute to exist in each Wisconsin County. The purpose
of the Commission is to provide emergency assistance to needy veterans and to the family members of deceased
veterans who reside in La Crosse County.
The Veterans Service Commission holds its monthly meetings at 4:00 pm on the first Monday evening of each month. If the first Monday is
a holiday, the meeting is held on the following Tuesday.
Applications for Commission grants are obtained from and returned to the Veterans Service Officer, who is Executive Secretary
for the Commission, no later than 4:00 p.m. on the Friday before the Commission Meeting.
The amount of assistance, and whether or not assistance is granted, is at the sole discretion of the La Crosse County Veterans
Service Commission. Generally, grants are restricted to three per calendar year for one individual.
The Commission may provide assistance in the form of emergency vouchers for food, heating fuel, medical services or
medications; payment of utility expenses or housing expense directly to the provider; and bus fare to and from VA facilities paid
only to the transportation company.
The Veterans Service Officer, acting in his capacity as Executive Secretary for the Commission, is delegated the authority to
make grants in the amount of $100 or less. All such transactions must be documented, submitted and reviewed at the next
regularly scheduled Commission meeting. |
