1. Erosion Control Land Disturbance Ordinance The Department accepts applications, reviews sites and issues permits for land disturbances in unincorporated areas of La Crosse County. Permits are required for land disturbances of 4,000 sq. ft. or more on slopes up to 20%, or 2000 square feet over 20%, where more than 400 cubic yards of fill / excavation occurs and where excavation of logging roads is necessary. 2. Erosion Control Requirements for New One and Two Family Dwellings Through agreement with all but Bangor and Washington townships, the department administers and enforces the state Uniform Dwelling Code erosion control provisions for one and two family dwellings and commercial sites. Under these provisions the Department accepts applications, investigates sites, issues erosion control permits and enforces the erosion control requirements from site development through site stabilization.

Upon request, the Department provides individuals and units of government inventory, evaluation, and limited technical design information on a variety of urban land and surface water related issues.
4. Plat, Subdivision and Five Acre or Greater Land Disturbances The Department reviews plats and subdivision erosion control and storm water plans for Planning, Resource and Development Committee approval. The Department also reviews and submits to the committee erosion control plans for any land disturbances of 5 acres or greater.
5. Non-Metallic Mining Ordinance In cooperation with the Zoning and Land Use Department, the Department accepts, reviews and approves reclamation plans for new and existing mines. The Department certifies reclamation upon active mine site closure.
